Yak Chewz are made solely out of lactose-free and fat-free dehydrated cheese! The natural yak milk used in our chews is sourced and processed in Nepal, where the local yak farmers have been making this cheese as a shelf-stable, human food for many generations. The only ingredients that are added are a very small amount of salt and lime juice, used to start the conversion of the milk into cheese. In our fruit-flavored chews, we also add fully digestible, all-natural, non-staining coloring and essential oils derived from fruits.

Absolutely they are! Yak Chewz are fully digestible, lactose-free, fat-free, and consist mainly of protein and probiotics. They are considered safe for the majority of dogs with allergies and sensitive stomachs, though if you have serious concerns about your dog's specific dietary requirements, consult with your veterinarian just to make sure.

While Yak Chewz are safe for healthy, adult dogs, we do advise a certain amount of caution with puppies under 15 weeks of age that haven't started getting their adult teeth in yet, simply so they aren't chewing on our hardened chews and accidentally lose too many of their deciduous teeth too soon. We advise the same caution with elderly dogs as well: if they have started losing their adult teeth due to age, maybe avoid the hardened chews and stick with our crunchy puffs, as those are much softer on their teeth. Dogs of ALL ages love the puffs! 

That's simple,  when the chew gets to the point of becoming a choking hazard, just put it directly in the microwave for 60 seconds on high. If it isn't fully puffed up, (wattage can vary on microwaves), simply add 30 seconds. You should really never need to go longer than that, as the puffs will begin to burn on the inside with excessive microwaving.

It's pretty easy though, Small chews for small dogs (4-20 lbs.), Medium chews (20-30 lbs.), Large chews (30-40 lbs.), Extra Large chews (40-50 lbs.), XXL chews (50-60 lbs.), Jumbo chews for big dogs (60-100+ lbs.).

We recommend waiting until around 15 weeks of age, (after most of the deciduous teeth have fallen out and adult teeth have started coming in), before you start giving our hardened chews to your puppy. However, our Crunchy Puffs make a GREAT treat for them as soon as they can start eating solid food, and they can be cut up into smaller pieces and used as training treats as well! 

Under normal circumstances, if you get the chew according to the size of your dog, average chewers usually get about a week of chew time. If you have a larger breed dog or a "power-chewer" type of dog, that time can vary, but MOST of the time you'll still get at the least a couple of days out of our chews. In case of power chewers, we often recommend using our chews as a special treat, set a chew time limit for your dog, and remove the chew after about an hour so they can end up enjoying their Yak Chew for multiple days instead of just destroying it all in one sitting. 

Yes, we usually recommend larger chews for aggressive chewers, and in the event that your dog starts chewing through their Yak Chew unreasonably fast, don't be afraid to take it away and give it to them on a time limit as a special treat, (such as when you need your dog to leave you alone for an hour or two).

Some dogs have a tendency to start chewing obsessively, as a form of anxiety relief or simply out of boredom, so it never hurts to help them be a little responsible with their favorite chews! 

Yak Chewz generally don't have much of a smell at all. When they're fresh, they will often smell lightly smokey, (as they are cured and preserved by dehydrating in a smoke room), but it is never an overwhelming odor. Unlike rawhide, (which starts smelling terrible the longer your dog chews on it), Yak Chewz don't put off a smell during chewing, and when your dog stops chewing, our chews dry right back out and don't stink. 

Yes, Yak Chewz are free of grains, rawhide, meat products, chemicals, preservatives, sugars, fats, lactose... Simply put, Yak Chewz are one of the healthiest chews you can find for your dog. It's just a simple, basic dehydrated cheese, made easily digestible for sensitive stomachs and non-allergenic for the large majority of dogs.

Absolutely Yak Chewz are good for dogs' dental health. As dogs chew on them, they are unable to really break chunks off, so they end up scraping at the chew with their teeth, which removes plaque (helping with bad breath), exercises their gums, and promotes a healthier mouth all around. We'd recommend Yak Chewz for natural dental health over ANY of those processed, chemical-laden "dental chews" any day of the week. 

Store Yak Chewz in your house in a cool, dry, dark area (drawers, shelves, etc.). They will remain shelf-stable for years if they aren't exposed to warm, moist air for long periods of time. Also, never store Yak Chewz in the refrigerator or freezer, as the moisture and temperature changes will compromise the density of the chews, causing cracking or breaking. 

Shipping generally takes between one to two weeks through USPS. Usually about a week except during high-volume times such as holidays. 

We offer free shipping on orders over $70, though sometimes we have free shipping specials from time to time. Most often, our shipping rates only run between $5-7, but since we keep our product pricing so much lower than our competitors, it usually still ends up costing less to buy from us, even with shipping costs included!
